Do you send home newsletters for your families? This is something I highly suggest all teachers do after 14 years of experience.
Let’s quickly discuss why I began sending out newsletters.
parents weren’t reading our school newsletters:
My school sent out monthly ones for parents and they were NOT being read. I realized that they were just too jam packed. The office was sending home one newsletter with information for the whole school. That’s way too much info! Parents will not read those newsletters if they are overwhelming.
How did I know families weren’t reading them? Parents kept asking me questions that were addressed in the newsletter.
Because of this, we began sending out our own. I stuck with the monthly format because that is what we were used to.
Game changers!
Once I began sending them out, there was no turning back! Parents finally knew what was going on and they often commented how much they appreciated getting a newsletter.
My students began putting them in their homework binders. They loved checking it daily to see what was going on. Bonus for the teacher: My students would remind me of events happening during the week…something that is super handy for a forgetful teacher. LOL
Weekly newsletter request
Like I mentioned before, I’ve been sending home monthly ones this whole time. Throughout the past years so many teachers reached out asking for a weekly template. This summer I decided to tackle that project. After spending a good 100 hours designing and perfecting them, they are now done! Check them out below:
Even though I’ve been team #monthlynewsletters, this weekly template is making me reconsider that!
I am in love! They’re easy to fill out for the teacher and they are very easy for families to read at home.
There are several templates included each month so that you have one per week.
Newsletter FAQs
I got many questions about these templates shortly after releasing them. I’m answering them below just in case you have some of the same questions.
- Are these newsletters editable?
- Yes! The clip art and the size of the boxes cannot be changed, but all the text (except for the month) is editable!
- Is the homework area editable?
- Yes! I know many teachers don’t assign homework so I wanted that area to be flexible for your needs. Lots of teachers reached out to let me know what they were planning on doing with this area at the bottom. Here are some examples teachers shared with me:
- Special area classes for each day
- Items to bring to school each day
- Behavior log
- Communication log
- Agenda
- Lunch menu for the week
- Spirit week reminders
- Quick week-at-a-glance for families

- Can the kids be removed?
- No, they are locked in place and cannot be moved due to the clip artist’s terms of use. I do have plans for a set that does not include the kids. If you want that copy, please hit “contact” at the top of this site and I will let you know when those are released.
- Could I get a digital copy?
- Yes! Digital copies are included!
- Love these, but I need a Spanish copy.
- Spanish copies are included!
- Can I get black and white copies?
- They are included for every template!
- How do I share these with families?
- You can print these out if you teach in person. I suggest using the black and white copies for that. Print on neon paper for an extra pop!
- Do you use Google Classroom? You can share them easily there!
- Save them as a picture (jpg or png) and post them on your classroom website, email them, share them via Remind, Class Dojo, etc.
- Save them as a PDF and email them out.
- Print as a poster and hang up in your hallway for parents to see when they drop off their children. (I have a tutorial for that here)
I hope that answers any questions you may have, but if you still have any more, please reach out via the contact button at the top of this site and I will get back to you ASAP!
