Do you have emergent writers that get stuck when they see a blank page?
I have a group of students this year that need some support to help them focus on writing simple sentences. I don’t have to tell you that these past couple of years have taken a toll on academics so we have to find ways to meet the kids’ needs in new ways.
From class observations and conferencing, I saw that this group is struggling the most with generating ideas to the point where they can’t focus on writing anything. After all, how can you sound out words when there aren’t any ideas popping into your head?
I knew I had to come up with something that could help them work their way through simple sentence writing so I got to work and created these visual prompt booklets!
Two levels are included for you to choose from. The ones above have room for one sentence per page.
If you have students that are ready for a little more of a challenge, they use can use these books instead:
Both versions use one sheet of paper per student!
Take a peek at a sample showing the same book at both levels:
You can see that level one is very simple. Level two has room for a more detailed sentence or more than one sentence.
These booklets are perfect for emergent writers in grades K-2. I’m personally using them with a second grade group that is working at a kindergarten level. I’m happy to report I have already seen an improvement in their writing!
